Summary

Motherhood is hard。 In a world of five-step lists and silver-bullet solutions to become perfect parents, mothers are burdened with mixed messages about who they are and what choices they should make。 If you feel pulled between high-fives and hard words, with culture’s solutions only raising more questions, you’re not alone。

But there is hope。

You might think that Scripture doesn’t have much to say about the food you make for breakfast, how you view your postpartum body, or what school choice you make for your children, but a deeper look reveals that the Bible provides the framework for finding answers to your specific questions about modern motherhood。

Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler help you understand and apply the gospel to common issues moms face so you can connect your Sunday morning faith to the Monday morning tantrum。

Discover how closely the gospel connects with today’s motherhood。 Join Emily and Laura as they walk through the redemptive story and reveal how the gospel applies to your everyday life, bringing hope, freedom, and joy in every area of motherhood。

It was a good book。 But definitely for a woman who is just entering motherhood or who may be a little insecure in their mothering。

Jacqueline Sterling

Encouragement for godly motherhood。 Great book to come back to in times of immense struggle, and be reminded that God is in control, God sees us and our hearts, and how much He loves us and our families through the lens of the gospel。

This book didn’t contain much that was new to me or particularly noteworthy。 I did not find it personally life changing, but it is solid and very gospel-centric。 It’s a good pick as a discussion starter for a moms’ group with women of varying theological knowledge。

Every mom needs to read (or listen) to this book! Encouraging, convicting, and edifying。 I'm glad I own the book because I'm sure I will revisit it often。 Every mom needs to read (or listen) to this book! Gospel centered advice for Moms。

I enjoyed it。 It was a good reminder of a Biblical world view。 I didn't necessarily agree on all the points they made but it didn't ruin it for me and they weren't salvation issues。 The book lends well to using it for a book club of like minded biblical women。 It has discussion questions at the end of each chapter to help further think about the topics。 I also enjoyed the beautiful pages of florals in black and white。 I pulled out my colored pencils on a few of the pages but they are also nice i I enjoyed it。 It was a good reminder of a Biblical world view。 I didn't necessarily agree on all the points they made but it didn't ruin it for me and they weren't salvation issues。 The book lends well to using it for a book club of like minded biblical women。 It has discussion questions at the end of each chapter to help further think about the topics。 I also enjoyed the beautiful pages of florals in black and white。 I pulled out my colored pencils on a few of the pages but they are also nice in black and white。 Some people may be cringing that I colored in my book but I am one to mark up all over books。 It works for me。 。。。more

I enjoyed reading a chapter a day and treating it like a morning devotion! I hope to go through it again someday。

Read as part of a book club。 Very enjoyable to read, relatable with practical applications!

This book was actually life changing for me。 It helped me process my birth story in light of scripture and the Gospel。 It guided me as I’m trying to follow Jesus in a new season of my life now that I have a child。 I’m encouraged, convicted, and moving forward。 I’m so grateful for this book!

This book had some amazing chapters in it that I just highlighted and underlined and tabbed like crazy while reading it。 There were also some more boring chapters that I didn’t glean as much from but I’m sure they enlightened some。 I think that’s why I’m rating it a 4 instead of a 5。 I really loved about 60% of the book, but there was 40% I was just reading to get through it, I wasn’t very interested in a good portion of it。 But the chapters I loved I learned a lot from。 I’ve started listening t This book had some amazing chapters in it that I just highlighted and underlined and tabbed like crazy while reading it。 There were also some more boring chapters that I didn’t glean as much from but I’m sure they enlightened some。 I think that’s why I’m rating it a 4 instead of a 5。 I really loved about 60% of the book, but there was 40% I was just reading to get through it, I wasn’t very interested in a good portion of it。 But the chapters I loved I learned a lot from。 I’ve started listening to the Risen Motherhood podcast and that’s super great also。 I love how short they episodes are so it’s perfect to listen to while folding laundry or doing the dishes。 I’m learning a lot from the podcasts too。Pizza review: 6。9/10 。。。more

Had some really wonderful points, but was overall fairly repetitive。

Kelsey Fortin

A lot of really encouraging, gospel centered advice and practical applications to everyday life as well as difficult circumstances。

Maggie Reyerson

10/10 I loved it。 I kept putting it on the back burner to other books; however, EVERY time I opened this one I was filled with encouragement and laughter。 I ended up buying my own copy to have long term access to it!

Madeline Doornink

Encouraging, Bible-based, and practical。 It will be on my shelf for quick reference on hard days。

I listened to the audiobook version of this (it wasn't listed as an option at this point on Goodreads)。 It was read by both authors alternately, so that was really nice。 While this book doesn't speak to me as much at this point in my motherhood journey, I still think it's a nice reminder of why I do it and where I should be focused。 This would be an excellent book for young mothers who are just starting out and who are believers, as well as mothers who are new to the faith。 I listened to the audiobook version of this (it wasn't listed as an option at this point on Goodreads)。 It was read by both authors alternately, so that was really nice。 While this book doesn't speak to me as much at this point in my motherhood journey, I still think it's a nice reminder of why I do it and where I should be focused。 This would be an excellent book for young mothers who are just starting out and who are believers, as well as mothers who are new to the faith。 。。。more

I think this is better as a reference book to refer back to as circumstances arise in your life。 It didn't read straight through as well as I would like, but I can see myself picking it up and reading the applicable chapter。 I think this is better as a reference book to refer back to as circumstances arise in your life。 It didn't read straight through as well as I would like, but I can see myself picking it up and reading the applicable chapter。 。。。more

Good topical book with practical steps and questions for each chapter。 Not a book on parenting but rather a book to help parents put on gospel lens。 (I listened to the audiobook。)

Melissa

This has been such an encouraging biblical resource during a difficult season of parenting。 It’s a book I’ll hold on and revisit frequently。

Sarah Price

Loved it。 Will probably reread it!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐It took me a month to read this one and it's because I spent each chapter, journaling, noting and digging into scripture while I read。 There are two parenting books that I will read and re-read and this is one of them。 (The other is Parenting by Paul David Tripp)。Raising young kids is tough and isolating and a constant feeling of not being enough。 This book is a much needed pause and reminder that God's grace covers it all。 I've loved the risen motherhood podcast for awhile now and this boo ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐It took me a month to read this one and it's because I spent each chapter, journaling, noting and digging into scripture while I read。 There are two parenting books that I will read and re-read and this is one of them。 (The other is Parenting by Paul David Tripp)。Raising young kids is tough and isolating and a constant feeling of not being enough。 This book is a much needed pause and reminder that God's grace covers it all。 I've loved the risen motherhood podcast for awhile now and this book is such a perfect summary of everything they teach。I'm always hesitant to read books like this, since they tend to read more like a blog post than an actual book。 I'm happy to say I found this to be more like a Bible study and I loved every page of it。 If you're a mom, or plan to become one in the near future, I highly recommend this read。 。。。more

Simple read about the importance of gospel centeredness in our good pursuit of motherhood!

This is a great book for new/newish mom's 。 I would say mom's with kids 5 and under would be a great fit for this book。 This is a great book for new/newish mom's 。 I would say mom's with kids 5 and under would be a great fit for this book。 。。。more

The theology is solid and it’s an encouraging and convicting read。 Very simple, which isn’t necessarily bad。 But most of the content is stuff that I think most Christian moms will learn (through experience more than anything) as the years go by。 It would be a fantastic book for a new, or new-ish mom。

Kristi

I really enjoyed this book as I started my journey of motherhood! I enjoy the podcast as well and will keep returning to this book throughout my life。 I know the different topics will impact me differently at different times。 Great fo read on your own or discuss with friends。 I appreciated the grace-filled approach。 It is very accessible and easy to read just a chapter at a time, or all at once。

Abi

I read this for work as a Young Moms Bible study group is wanting to work through it。 I wish it had been written when I had young kids。 I loved the focus in each chapter on Creation, Fall, Redemption and Consumation。 Practical, encouraging and points you to Jesus and the gospel from start to finish。

Jess Betlyon

This books was sweet and truly read like one of their podcasts。 I enjoyed it and will definitely keep on the shelf for inspiration on the days I’m feeling mommy burnout!

Karen

This book was great for getting perspective。 As a mom it’s easy to look ahead passed the (sleepless nights, diapers, sickness, etc。) instead of thinking about how the gospel relates to every area of our lives, not just for salvation。 We can think about creation, fall, redemption, and the final consummation。 I found a lot of parallels looking at this paradigm while thinking about my sons adoption。 Great book for moms and for adjusting our focus from temporal to eternal even in the mundane。

Alecia

This a fabulous book。 I think it’s five stars for me because it speaks to the season I’m in, but I could see it not being as beneficial or stellar to moms of older children。 But for a mom of littles, it was fantastic!

Inisha

SO good! A must read for any mom! I love how these ladies bring everything back to the word。 From the mundane moments to the overwhelming ones, this book helps you to take it all back to the cross and to have peace amongst the craziness that is motherhood。 Something I WILL plan on reading over again。
